Getting started
- Install Mint Popups from the Shopify App Store.
- Click Create popup. Write your offer, choose a format (centred popup, slide-in or top bar), a trigger and the pages to show it on, and check the live preview. Set it to Active and save.
- Switch the popup on in your theme: on the app's home page click Open theme editor, make sure Mint Popups is turned on under App embeds, and click Save. (Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds.)
- Visit your store in a private window to see it. After you close a popup it stays hidden for the number of days you chose.
Where subscribers go
Every signup is created (or updated) as a Shopify customer with email marketing consent and the tag mint-popups, plus any extra tag you set on the popup. Find them in Customers, filtered by that tag or by "Email subscription status: Subscribed". Shopify Email and email apps that sync Shopify customers pick them up automatically.
Discount codes
- A code you choose: create it first in Discounts, then enter it in the popup. It's only shown after someone signs up.
- Unique codes (Pro): each new subscriber gets a single-use code like
MINT-7KQ2X9PA, created in Discounts with the value, minimum order and expiry you set. One code per email address per popup.
Common questions
My popup doesn't appear. Check that the popup is Active, the Mint Popups app embed is on in your live theme, and the page and device match your targeting. If you closed or signed up to it before, try a private window. Popups never show on the password page or customer account pages.
Shoppers see "Too many attempts". To stop spam we allow a few signups per connection every 10 minutes. Real shoppers rarely hit this.
I changed the app proxy URL. The popup posts signups to /apps/mint-popups. If you changed that path under Apps → Mint Popups → App proxy, change it back.
Confirmed (double) opt-in. Shopify doesn't send its own confirmation email for customers added by apps, so confirmed opt-in needs Mint Popups to send that email. The Settings page shows whether it's available; otherwise signups use single opt-in.
Your email marketing responsibilities
You're the sender of any marketing email. Mint Popups shows consent text with a link to your privacy policy, can require an unticked consent box, never hides the close button, and records consent in Shopify. You're responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you and your customers, for example GDPR/PECR in the EU and UK (freely given, specific consent; consider the consent box and confirmed opt-in) and CAN-SPAM in the US (your postal address and an unsubscribe link in every marketing email). This is general information, not legal advice.
Billing
The Free plan includes 1 active popup and 200 signups a month, with a small "Powered by Mint Popups" link. At the limit your popup pauses until the 1st of next month. Pro is billed through Shopify at $9.99/month after a 7-day free trial and includes unlimited popups and signups, A/B testing, unique codes and no branding. Cancel anytime from the app's Plans page or by uninstalling.
Privacy
See our privacy policy for exactly what the app handles. In short: subscribers are stored in your Shopify store, not by us.
